Cop pulling DARE trailer gets DUI

A police officer in Indiana was charged with drunken driving while towing a trailer for the department's DARE program. John Newcomb, a 38-year-old DARE officer for the Seymour Police Department, was arrested after officers said he sideswiped a parked car and hit a tree, WAVE-TV reported. Newcomb, who refused medical treatment after the crash, told police he was distracted by his dog, who was riding in the pickup truck. He faces one count of operating while intoxicated. The status of his job with the police department was unknown.

VENTURA, Calif. -

High school juniors and seniors learned about the dangers of driving while drinking or texting today. They took part in the" Every 15 Minutes Program," at Foothill Technology High School in Ventura.

The California Highway Patrol, health officials and educators made it look real by using cars that were towed away from other accidents. Some students took it a step further by taking a field trip to the morgue and the county jail where drunk drivers are booked.

Tyler and Brennen Hasty, sophomore twins, helped the school make a video of the fatal crash re-enactment to share with younger classmates.
