Transit Funds Dispute

Don't pay interest: Borrowing money costs money and too few purchases will rise in value after you buy.

VENTURA, Calif. -

A dispute over transportation money is on. Over the past five years, Assembly member Das Williams says 24-million dollars in Transportation Development Act funds has been spent on roads instead of mass transit.

A Senate bill that passed in 2009 says that money must only be spent on transit by July 2014. Williams says his constituents don't want to rely on cars. But some city officials say their transit needs are met and they need more time to comply with the new law.

The Senate Transportation and Housing Committee met in Ventura today but did not resolve the issue.
