A new government study heats up the debate over whether illegal immigrants should get driver's licenses. A study by the Department of Motor Vehicles reveals unlicensed drivers are nearly three times as likely to cause a deadly crash as licensed drivers. Many unlicensed drivers are undocumented immigrants. The report suggests that passing a written exam and driving test would reduce the number of deadly crashes in California. Immigrant's rights supporters say allowing illegal immigrants to get a license to drive would make our roads safer. Critics say giving driver's licenses to non-citizens rewards illegal behavior. Last year, Governor Brown signed a law allowing people who are part of a federal work program to get a license.
