Prince William said he and wife Catherine "could not be happier" over the birth of their first child, according to a Kensington Palace spokesman.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge issued a statement thanking doctors and hospital staff for "tremendous care. "We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone -- staff, patients and visitors -- for their understanding during this time," they said.
The public got its first glimpse of the new prince on July 23, 2013. "It's very special," Prince William said in response to a few questions from a reporter. "He's got her looks, thankfully."
