United Health Foundation's 2014 "America's Health Rankings Senior Report" provides a state-by-state snapshot of how healthy seniors are and what types of health care resources they have available.
The report tracked the health of U.S. adults 65 and older across 34 different measures of individual and community health, including rates of obesity, physical activity, smoking, chronic diseases like diabetes and death rates among seniors per state, and access to food, health care providers and prescription drug coverage. Here are the healthiest states for seniors, according to the report:
Work crews and volunteers on beaches east of the main Refugio oil spill site have, at times, prevented the public and press from going on the sand. Local leaders with the Santa Barbara County Park Department and the City of Goleta say no beaches are closed and they are working on a more coordinated effort.
