Tooth found in peanuts

A Canadian couple bit off more than they could chew while munching on a bag of peanuts on New Year's Eve.

Michaela Epp told the Winnipeg Sun her boyfriend, Graham Calder, crunched down on a human tooth after opening the bag of Safeway brand Spanish peanuts.

The tooth appeared to be broken into three parts and still had the root attached.

"It happened about 15 minutes after midnight," Epp told the Sun. "My boyfriend looked me and said, 'That's one way to start things.'"

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency was investigating.

"Safeway is committed to industry leading food safety standards and we will cooperate fully with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in their investigation," company spokeswoman Betty Kellsey said in a statement.
