Miss America: Don't suspend teen who asked me to prom

Miss America is defending a Pennsylvania teen who was suspended after defying school administrators and asking her to prom.

Nina Davuluri said she was flattered when 18-year-old Patrick Farves posed the question during a recent school assembly.

While she can't go, Davuluri told Time magazine she hopes Farves' high school will reconsider his three-day suspension.

"Meeting and interacting with students across the country has been an important and rewarding part of my year as Miss America," she wrote on the Miss America Facebook page. "I always encourage students to follow their dreams through education, and I’m inspired daily by the enthusiasm and aspirations of the bright young adults I have the pleasure of meeting through my travels."

According to The Associated Press, the school was aware that Farves intended to pose the question during Davuluri's presentation at the school last Thursday.

But officials said they discouraged him from doing so.

Farves later apologized for the interruption.
