An explosion blows through the roof of a Brentwood, New Hampshire, home after an officer was shot and killed there.

A large explosion rocked a New Hampshire house where a police officer was shot and killed Monday, WCVB-TV reported.

A large number of police officers from multiple agencies rushed to the home in Brentwood about 4:45 p.m. after a report of an officer-involved shooting.

The unidentified officer was flown to an area hospital, where he died.

SWAT teams were in the area of 46 Mill Pond Road as a fire began on the second floor of the home.

Around 5:50 p.m., a massive explosion rocked the house and blew out a large part of the roof.

The fire was quickly spreading throughout the home.

Shortly before the explosion, media crews and others nearby were told to get back out of concern that they might be in the line of fire. An officer was heard saying there may have been a person with a long firearm in the home.

Earlier, a person was seen being taken to an ambulance. That person was sitting up and did not appear to be seriously injured. A local hospital said it was treating one patient who arrived from the scene. That person was not suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Attorney General's Office said it had been informed of the situation and was still gathering information. Gov. Maggie Hassan was at the state's Emergency Operations Center to monitor the situation.

The neighborhood is a community for people age 55 and older, WCVB reported.
