Principal 'shuts down' Pledge of Allegiance

Students in a western Nebraska town were banned from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance one day last week because of the government shutdown.
The decision by Alliance High School Principal Pat Jones on Oct. 7 outraged parents and some students alike.
One woman told The Associated Press her son stood up in class and recited the pledge anyway.
District superintendent Troy Unzicker said Jones hadn't cleared the move beforehand, and wouldn't be doing so again.
He would not say whther Jones had been disciplined.
"There were some positive aspects that came out of it, but (skipping the pledge) is not something we will do again," Unzicker said.
