Whether you're a marathon runner or hoping to do something outdoors with the family this weekend, by participating in a 5K you can help support the local community.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Whether you're a marathon runner or hoping to do something outdoors with the family this weekend, by participating in a 5K you can help support the local community.

The out and back race begins at 9 AM Sunday starting at Leadbetter Beach.

Formerly know as Roses en La Playa, this year the Jenny Schatzle Community Run will focus on children and supporting education.

$5 from every registration fee will go to a school in Santa Barbara.

Organizers say it's a fun event that will not only help support our local kids but also remind families of the importance of fitness.

"The obesity rate is an issue," said personal trainer Jenny Schatzle.  "And we've got to teach our kids that fitness is fun!  You've got to start young because you've got to do it the rest of your life.  So let's have a little fun while we do it."

Whether you register online or the day of, there is no late fee.  It's $20 for adults and $15 for kids 16 and under.
