In 2009, students used social media sites to send out invites for a beach party. They named it Floatopia. Thousands of people spanned the beach and the water, causing what officials called extremely dangerous conditions. ISLA VISTA, Calif. -

Several people were hurt after a balcony collapsed during a massive party in Isla Vista.

It happened just after three Saturday afternoon.  Medics responded to the house on the 6000 block of Del Playa.

That's where thousands of party goers flooded the streets for the annual spring break event.

In 2009, students used social media sites to send out invites for a beach party. They named it Floatopia.

Thousands of people spanned the beach and the water, causing what officials called extremely dangerous conditions.

Since then, Santa Barbara County officials have closed the beaches each year to prevent the party from happening.

Instead party organizers have simply re-located to Del Playa Street, and re-named the event, Deltopia.
