Suspect cuts electrical wires and smashes cash register on the ground

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

A Mobil gas station on the 2200 block of Las Positas Road was robbed about 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Surveillance video shows the robber destroying the cash register.  At one point, he cuts the electrical wires and smashes the cash register on the ground.

The unidentified man got away with about $1,000 cash.

The destroyed cash register has a value of $8,000 to $10,000.

Owner, Alex Jahangir, can't operate his business without the computerized payment system and said he's losing about $6,000 dollars a day in sales.

"I wish he would have been smart enough to push the no sale key.  If he pushed it, it would have opened and we all would have been happy," said Jahangir.

The owner said he doesn't know when he'll be open for business again.

If you have any information about the robbery, call the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.
