The route for the ninth edition of America's largest and most prestigious professional cycling race has been announced. Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach and Cambria will be playing host to the Amgen Tour of California this May.
The tour will bring 16 world-class teams 740 miles from Sacramento to Thousand Oaks but not before making pit stops along the way. Stage 4 ends in Cambria and Stage 5 sends riders from Pismo Beach, over the San Marcos Pass and into the finish line along the beach in Santa Barbara.
"With the descent off of San Marcos, we'll be able to witness, probably the fastest speeds of this year's tour," Amgen Tour Race Director Jim Birrell said.
The Stage 5 finish line will be along Cabrillo Blvd. in Santa Barbara, and organizers are getting ready for the party that will be coming with it. On May 15th riders will arrive from Pismo around 4:30 p.m., but beginning at 11 a.m. the streets along the beach will be closed and turned into a festival.
The Amgen Tour of California runs from May 11-18; events are free and open to the public.
