SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

A popular Santa Barbara downtown restaurant is getting to the root of its problems.

Workers are tearing out the patio at Bouchon on Victoria St. this week to remove the Ficus and Paper Bark trees.

That will clear out a maze of roots underneath that has damaged some utilities and the foundation.

The owners say they will redesign the scenic, garden setting once the heavy work is finished.

In the meantime the inside dining at the restaurant remains open daily.
