Crews Work Fast to Extinguish Brush Fire

Firefighters quickly put out a small brush fire on highway 101 in Santa Barbara this afternoon.


Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish a shrub fire on the northbound side of Highway 101 just  past Olive Mill Road.

The fire broke out just before 2 p.m.

Montecito and Santa Barbara City firefighters worked to extinguish the flames just before 2:30 p.m.

California Highway Patrol  blocked one of the two lanes, temporarily while crews sprayed water and used chain saws to cut the shrubs.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

Santa Barbara City Fire Battalion Chief Mike de Ponce said, at the scene, the area was tinder dry, and the cause was unknown.

Fire investigators were looking for witnesses in the area including the first citizens to call 911.
