Jaws of Life Used to Extricate Two People, Cat and Dog

A car rolled over on Highway 101 and into a ditch, trapping two people in Montecito.

It happened South of the Olive Mill off-ramp shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Rescue teams freed both people from the wreckage about one hour later. They had to use the jaws of life to get them out.

A man was taken out first and rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. They freed the woman last.

Emergency crews also had to rescue a dog and a cat.

There is no word yet on the extent of the victims injuries or what caused the crash. Only one car was involved.

Traffic was slow going through the area, but highway 101 remained open.
