Two big hotel chains could be coming to Carpinteria when a church on Via Real offers its property for sale.

CARPINTERIA, Calif. -

Two hotel projects on one site have been proposed in Carpinteria.

The location is a 2.6 acre parcel at 4110 Via Real.

The plan calls for a Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott and a Hampton Inn by Hilton.

The revised project calls for 60 rooms for one hotel and 80 room at the other.

Underground parking will be included in the design.

The maximum height for the hotels will be 30 feet with a setback from the street.   Nearby will be a new Casa de las Flores affordable housing project, and a large agricultural field.  The current building on the property is a church.

The Carpinteria City Council and Planning Commission have a joint meeting on the project tonight.
