A local man enters into national competition on motorcycle safety.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Allstate Insurance Company is awarding $25,000 to 5 people with the best ideas for advancing motorcycle safety and awareness. The award will be split among the five winners.

More than 300 entries were received in this nationwide competition and a Santa Barbara resident has made it to the top 15.

Vittorio Grieco works at Moto Loco, a local motorcycle shop on Carpinteria Street. His idea is to use the $5,000 toward setting up a series of monthly family friendly events where motorcycle riders can freely talk and learn about how to stay protected. The events would include speakers, inspections of motorcycles, videos, and music and food for attendees.

The deadline to vote in this competition is  midnight Thursday.  If you'd like to support, go to AllStategoodridegrant.com.

Log-in via Facebook and cast your vote for the entry titled "Support your local bike mechanic."

"They immediately just became part of the family," said Henning. "They were very friendly with all the guests we had coming over."

But things changed when Daisy and Duke got loose. They liked chasing cats.

"Dogs are pack animals and that is their default instinct," said Henning. "If they are bonded or litter mates, it intensifies that. They would get out of the confines of our house or yard and this instinct would come to the surface."
