The Arco Chromatic Arch's repainting is completed

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The well known Herbert Bayer Chromatic Gate has been repainted on the Santa Barbara waterfront with vibrant colors that bring life back into what was a fading structure.

Funds were raised through donations to pay for the painting project and work was recently completed.

The sculpture last saw a coat of fresh paint more than a decade ago.

It is often referred to as the "Rainbow Arch" at its site on the corner of Cabrillo Blvd. and Calle Puerto Vallarta.

The Chromatic Gate is 21 feet high and it was installed in 1991 in a site called the Arco Circle.   Bayer lived in Montecito before he died in 1985.
