Creekbed Fire in Predawn Hours Brings Out Santa Barbara Fire Engines

Published On: Jan 07 2014 08:42:57 PM CST   Updated On: Jan 07 2014 11:05:43 PM CST

An early morning fire in Santa Barbara could have been devastating to the area.

Santa Barbara City Firefighters were up before dawn on a creekbed fire near a shopping center.

Smoke and flames were seen off Hitchcock Way and State St. in an area behind a grocery store and near the YMCA.

The first engine crew on the scene got water on the flames as the fire was climbing up tall eucalyptus trees.

No one was hurt.  No structures were damaged.

The area is known for homeless camps, however the cause remains under investigation.
