ISLA VISTA, Calif -

A man broke his leg, and rescue crews went through the high tide to save him after a cliff fall early Sunday morning in Isla Vista.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Foot Patrol directed a fire rescue crew to go through the high tide below 6600 Del Playa Drive to a cove where the injured man was found.

The accident occurred about 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

The ocean bluffs in the area are about 40-feet high.   It's unclear what the victim was doing prior to the fall.   His name and age have not been released.

The man was treated at the scene and taken to Cottage Hospital.

Last year, a fence was installed in a risky area of the bluffs that was previously open.   Signs were also posted notifying those in the area, that the cliffs are dangerous.
