SANTA YNEZ, Calif. -

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Santa Ynez.

The incident happened just after 6:30 a.m. Friday on Refugio Road and Deer Trail Lane. CHP reports the accident happened in the vicinity of Santa Ynez Valley High School.

Officials said 89-year-old Grace Cota was driving a Ford mini-van eastbound on Deer Trail Lane when she struck a jogger entering the intersection.

The man struck was a 45-year-old Ryuta Yamaguchi of Santa Ynez and he was pronounced dead at Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital.

Authorities do not believe alcohol to be a factor in this collision. Cota was not arrested.
