Fatal Head On Crash Closed Highway 154 for Over Two Hours

Highway open in both directions

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. -

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal head on collision at Highway 154 and San Antonio Creek Road. The accident occurred at 2:38 p.m. Wednesday.

California Highway Patrol officers closed the highway in both directions from Old San Marcos Road to Cathedral Oaks Road for over two hours. It is now back open.

Emergency responders said a 31-year-old Nipomo man died on scene. The other driver involved was Susan Jorgensen of Santa Ynez. She suffered minor injuries from the crash.

The collision involved a Hyundai Sedan, which struck the embankment adjacent the dirt shoulder north of the roadway.  The passenger side of the Hyundai collided with the front of a Lexus traveling westbound at the same location.

Investigators said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor to the collision.

No arrests were made and cause of the accident is under investigation by the CHP.
