Frozen Directors Talk to Students in Santa Barbara

Co-Director Jennifer Lee is Walt Disney Animation Studios' first female director.

A movie director paving the way for women in film is in Santa Barbara for the film festival inspiring young girls to pursue their  dreams.

Disney's "Frozen" co-director Jennifer Lee is Walt Disney Animation Studios' first female director.

The film is up for an Oscar for "Best Animated Feature."

Lee was part of a question and answer session with students Thursday at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival's 's program Mike's Movie Field Trip.

Lee encourages other women with dreams of writing and directing movies to not be afraid and says that the rewards outweigh the fear.

"There's so many moments where I almost didn't do it," Lee said.  "And I think if I hadn't, if I hadn't with those butterflies and nerves stepped out and said I want to do this, I wouldn't be here."

It's strong advice that some girls said has made them think about pursuing a career in film-making.

"I'm inspired by a female being a director," said Angie Diosdado.  "I think that's really cool.  I want to be a director when I grow up and I want to make Olaf because he's so cool!"

Lee co-directed "Frozen" with Chris Buck.
