LEADBETTER BEACH, Calif. -

It's typical to see surfers out on the water during the day, but how about some of our local heroes?

It's the 8th annual Longboard Classic hosted by the Santa Barbara City Firefighters and brings together several public safety agencies to raise money for local charities.

The $40 registration fee plus any other donations they get from the event goes to the Santa Barbara Charity Firefighters Associate Account helping a variety of local non profits.

"I actually did this before I worked for the City of Santa Barbara and I liked all the guys that come out," said Michael Billgren.  "We have a good comradery and we all get to go surf and just a good deal, and we get to give back to the community.

If you couldn't make it out today you can still make a donation online
