Researchers come to the aid of Bolivian flood victims

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

UCSB anthropologists are helping flood victims in Bolivia.

The land-locked country in South America has experienced months of torrential rain.

Two weeks of non-stop rain washed out the Tsimane villages.

Researchers have been studying the indigenous people who show no signs of heart disease.

Many owe their careers to the research so they have decided to give back.

Professor Michael Gurven said he plans to visit the region with students in June.

One of his colleagues, Benjamin Trumble, is there.

A relief fund has already raised $10,000 but more in needed to help the flood victims rebuild.
