A local rose grower was named the 2014 Great Rosarian of the World.
Danielle Hahn of Rose Story Farm in Carpinteria is the third woman and fifth American to get the 14-year-old award.
She didn't know it at the time that she was being considered for the award two years ago. Other rosarians would come to her farm and see how she grows the flowers.
"I mean, I'm incredulous, I really thought they'd made a mistake. I'm with the big guys. It's amazing. I didn't start this business because I knew a lot about roses. I started it because I loved them and I'm really self taught," said Hahn.
The Rose Story Farm grows 25,000 organic rose bushes. It is open to the public with tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
