LOMPOC, Calif. -

A program designed to give community members a glimpse into the life of law enforcement, is now a course at the Allan Hancock college at Lompoc.

On Saturday students in the Citizen’s Academy Class learned about driving safety.  The course showed them how to react to situations quickly and effectively while driving.

Bob Reid, the instructor, said “They’re going to learn about reaction time. It’s important for them to learn to react to a hazard.”

It’s all part of a 13 week program, each week gives students a look at a different subject and covers nearly all areas of law enforcement.

Wendell Minyard, a student and Limpoc resident said “I’ve been here for 40 years and I just assumed the police department was off in a distance.”

Minyard said he learned a lot about the various calls police respond to such as domestic violence and gang related cases.

The class is new to this Lompoc campus.
