A mini van caught fire around 2:30 p.m. on the corner of Quarantina and Gutierrez Streets and was destroyed.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

A man awaiting trial for the attempted murder of his brother, is back in jail after he allegedly set his mini van on fire.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. near Quarantina and Gutierrez Streets.

Santa Barbara Police said Ronald Beltran set his van on fire after telling his family he wanted officers to kill him.

Beltran was apparently distraught over his pending court case.

Earlier in the month, police said he tried to stab his brother and then stole a car.

Once police figured out who the van belonged to, they searched and found Beltran near Ortega Park.

After a short chase, police tased him and arrested him.
