Montecito Water Calls Special Meeting to Discuss Supplies

Leaders in Montecito have called for a special meeting about the community's water emergency.

MONTECITO, Calif. -

The Montecito Water District has called a special meeting to discuss its dwindling water supplies.

The meeting is set for February 11.

District officials have said water users need to conserve the supplies remaining during the on going drought and the water use in the district is showing no significant signs of going dow.n.

That message has been sent to all water district users, but it's not the first time they have heard it.  For several years, water managers have said conservation is the most inexpensive way to save the water they have, and purchasing  supplemental supplies will be costly.

Montecito is known for large properties with big homes and sprawling lawns.  There are also two golf courses in the area.

The water level at Cachuma Lake has fallen to 39 percent  of its capacity.   The supply will dry up in less than two years if there's no significant rain.

The district has not discussed rate increases at this time related to the drought.
