The San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) and Regional Transit Authority (RTA)  announced a partnership with Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo (CAPSLO) for the purchase of 40 Prado Road. The 9.97 acre  land could serve as RTA’s future transit maintenance facility as well as CAPSLO’s new Homeless Services Center.

RTA will  fun $1.534 million or 60 percent of the purchase price. Funding for the transit portion comes from State Proposition 1B which was passed by CA voters in 2008.

The City and County of SLO  along with donations and thtough the Homeless Foundation for San Luis Obispo County, will provide the additional $715,000. The price of the property is $2.25 million dollars.

Dave Cox, a board member with the Homeless Foundation, said “A big component came together when the RTA  board voted to purchase the property. Now we need to go on a fundraising effort to join in with the RTA and buy the property.”

CAPSLO wants to create one place for homeless services needs by combining the Maxine Lewis shelter and Prado Day Center.
