It's not your typical triathlon, nor is it your typical horse show. It's the National Reined Cow Horse Association Derby and it's back in Paso Robles

PASO ROBLES, Calif. -

For several years, the Paso Robles Event Center has been hosting the National Reined Cow Horse Association Derby.

The derby is made up of three demanding events, herd work, rein work and fence work. The grand prize winner can receive up to $34,000. The horses in the derby are top triathletes in the nation.

Horses entered in the contest are 4-and 5-years-old. They begin training as early as 2-years-old.

Every year, the derby is said to bring in a boosting amount of money for the city of Paso Robles, an estimated $4.6 million. The derby goes on until Saturday, June 15, the finals taking place on the same day.
