New Plants Help Restore Banks at Refugio Creek
Updated On: Mar 06 2014 10:02:17 PM CST
Some volunteers are getting down and dirty to help a restoration effort at Refugio Creek.
Two non profit groups - South Coast Habitat Restoration and Channel Islands Restoration - both from Carpinteria are planting thousands of native plants along the creek which has been over run with weeds and out of control plants.
The non native trees and plants have been removed and ground into mulch.
3000 new plants are going in on the site.
Volunteers from Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties have been working on the project for weeks.
Once it is completed, the area will provide shade for the creek and a new habitat for small animals and birds.
There’s still one planting day left. It’s Saturday March 8th from 9:00 am -12:30 pm. Tools, gloves, water and snacks will be provided. If you are interested in helping you can contact:
