Over 9,000 U.C. Santa Barbara Students Receive Meningitis Vaccine
Officials at U.C. Santa Barbara released how many students were vaccinated against a dangerous strain of meningitis.
More than 9,000 students opted to get the first of a two-shot vaccination. A spokesperson for the university said that is roughly half of the student body.
Several groups of students made their own arrangements to get the vaccine in the next few weeks. Four students contracted the dangerous disease.
One of the students had to have his feet amputated. However, there have not been any additional cases since November.
These 9,000 students will have to undergo a second vaccination in April.
