OXNARD, Calif. -

Oxnard Police responded to the scene of a fatal traffic collision between a car and a bicyclist in the northbound lanes of Rose Avenue and the 101 Freeway Monday morning.

Police identified the man killed as 45-year-old Daniel Maze of Oxnard.

The collision happened on the overpass. The Rose Avenue overpass at the 101 Freeway was closed for about two hours while police investigated the crash.

It appears Maze was traveling northbound on Rose Avenue and was struck by the car. Police said 20-year-old Pablo Cesar Tellez Chavez was also going northbound and preparing change lanes to enter Highway 101.

Authorities said as Chavez was changing lanes that is when he struck Meza on the bicycle.

A cause has not been determined and an investigation is continuing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at 385-7600.
