Local psychologist weighs in on how this incident can act as a wake up call for parents.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Paris Jackson is safe and physically ok after being rushed to an LA hospital, according to sources close to the family.

The 15-year old daughter of the late Michael Jackson tried to hurt herself with a knife Wednesday in her Calabasas home, and is now getting the appropriate medical attention.

The night before, Paris had left some cryptic messages to her followers on Twitter--- including one tweet quoting the Beatles' song "Yesterday," and another saying "I wonder why tears are salty."

One local psychologist tells NewsChannel 3 these were signs missed, and that we can learn from her incident by paying more attention to our children, and learning to better communicate with them.

If you're concerned about a loved one or want to know how to best  speak to your child about suicide, here are some helpful videos:

Peggy Henning remembers the day her family welcomed Daisy and Duke into their family like it was yesterday.

"They immediately just became part of the family," said Henning. "They were very friendly with all the guests we had coming over."

But things changed when Daisy and Duke got loose. They liked chasing cats.

"Dogs are pack animals and that is their default instinct," said Henning. "If they are bonded or litter mates, it intensifies that. They would get out of the confines of our house or yard and this instinct would come to the surface."
