Pedestrian Improvements at Goleta Intersection Underway
Updated On: Jan 22 2014 10:08:19 AM CST
Construction is now underway at an intersection where a woman was killed and her toddler injured in a vehicle accident last November.
City of Goleta project managers expect a pedestrian improvement project on Cathedral Oaks at Santa Marguerita to take 15 working days to complete.
One lane in each direction will be closed and minor delays will be possible.
The construction includes flashing signs to help alert motorists when a pedestrian wishes to cross the street.
It also includes removing the turn lane from westbound Cathedral Oaks Road to northbound Santa Marguerita Avenue, adding curb extensions and creating a median pedestrian refuge area.
The project is funded through a combination of Measure A Alternative Transportation Grants, Measure A local funds and Transportation Development Account (TDA) funds.
The project concept was approved last March by the city council.
