SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

First responders got to practice what it would be like to respond to an actual airplane crash at the Santa Barbara Airport Wednesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires emergency drills at airports across the country every three years.

Airport officials, area firefighters and even the Federal Bureau of Investigation participated in the drill.

Rescuers had to deal with smoke, fire and injured passengers.  The goal of the drill is to iron out any problems with the response effort.

First responders will find out how well they did with the drill in the next few weeks.
