The Santa Barbara Police Foundation has made a $69,400. donation to help the city police department.
The funds will pay for gear and services that are not in the annual budget.
The foundation is a non-profit organization that raises money through a golf tournament and a "Brunch with the Cops." Other donations are made throughout the year from citizens concerned about public safety.
Foundation President Craig Case presented the check to Mayor Helene Schneider yesterday at the council meeting.
He said the funds will buy night vision glasses and ballistic blankets for the SWAT team to assist in officer and civilian rescues.
Some of the gear purchased by the group was used recently in a standoff on Bath St. downtown that resulted in an arrest after eight hours of negotiations with a violent man.
Overall, in the last year, the foundation has donated over $300,000 to the police department.
