President's speed on at local businesses

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

While some people watched President Barrack Obama's State of the Union address at home, others watched it at bars and restaurants.

At Dargan's Irish Pub, the speech was turned up so people could listen.

One women said she agreed with the president's "Mad Men" comment about the need for equal pay. President Obama said, "It's time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a 'Mad Men'- episode."

At Harry's Plaza Cafe, most of the diners were watching basketball, but one employee said she planned to watch it for the first time to get extra credit in her political science class.

Obama talked about the need for immigration reform and the wage gap between the rich and the poor. He said he was willing to bypass lawmakers.

He also called global warming a fact.

One viewer who did not stay tuned in said he wanted more information on the science behind it.

Republicans are not likely to favor the president's push to increase the minimum wage for federal workers or all workers.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the highest-ranking female Republican in the House of Representatives, said she wanted to grow the working class not the government.
