Shoppers poured in at the new Santa Barbara public market on Chapala and Victoria streets, to see all the small business with produce, pasta, fish, meats, breads, cupcakes, juice and more. We hear from the customers who got the first look.

The weekend soft opening was a preview, and Monday the crowds came in to the new Santa Barbara Public Market on the corner of Victoria and Chapala Streets.

15 businesses are inside in an open air shopping experience.

Fresh meats, fish, pasta, and produce are next to noodles, cupcakes, juices, coffee and a wine and beer bar.

Many customers said they felt like they were in a San Francisco, Europe, or New York shopping experience.

The lunch crowd had meatball sandwiches, fish dishes, salami cones, and deli-type dishes.

The atmosphere had a buzz, but also many casual conversations with customers sharing their recommendations.

The market opening is part of a larger project that includes 37 condos nearby to be called Alma Del Pueblo.

The entire complex is next to the landmark Arlington Theatre.
