An apparent case of road rage impacted a local school Monday. It happened Monday morning on Cota Street near Santa Barbara Junior High School.
Police Sgt. Riley Harwood said a driver armed with a weapon got angry with another driver before 8:00 a.m. and flashed a handgun.
Students at the nearby junior high were ordered off the playing field and an automated alert went out to parents.
Police tracked down the driver, Matthew Ontiveros at his apartment on Salsipuedes Street and arrested the 35-year-old man for a possession of a meth pipe and brandishing a gun, which police say was a fake.
Ontiveros told officers flashing the replica handgun was a dumb thing to do, but he became angry when the other driver began tailgating him.
The Santa Barbara man told police he tossed the handgun out the window of his truck. As of Monday evening, it hadn't been found.
