THE 17TH ANNUAL RODS AND ROSES FESTIVAL WILL FEATURE OVER 100 CARS AND TRUCKS ON LINDEN AVENUE BETWEEN CARPINTERIA AVENUE AND THE BEACH. ORGANIZERS SAY THE EVENT ALSO FEATURES LIVE BANDS, A KIDS PLAY AREA, AND THOUSANDS OF FLOWERS FOR SALE FROM LOCAL GROWERS.

CARPINTERIA, Calif. -

The 17th annual Rods and Roses show in Carpinteria this weekend has had every slot filled for weeks by car lovers who want to show off their rides.   Thousands are expected to attend.

The event on Linden Ave. in the heart of downtown is free.

The late Indianapolis 500 legend Andy Granatelli, who died last year, will be remembered for his support of the show from its earliest years.  Granatelli was a nearby resident who handed out awards, and posed with car lovers.

Besides custom show cars, there will be race cars, motorcycles, and vintage tractors restored by students at Carpinteria High School.

Nearby there will be a children's entertainment area.

The event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. raises money for "Carpinteria Cares for Youth" and other local causes that help children in Carpinteria.

After the show, there will be an Independence Day parade, also on Linden Ave, and festivities at the nearby Carpinteria Arts Center.
