SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

Santa Maria police released the name of the 68-year-old Santa Maria name recovering from a hit and run that happened last Thursday.

Todd Logan is the lead investigator on the case involving serious injuries to a 68-year-old Marine Corps veteran. He said Anthony Edward Pearson was struck by what they believe was a small to mid-size sedan car.

It happened on the 1900 block of Broadway. The road does not have a designated bike lane and with heavy traffic flow, police say the hit and run accidents on Broadway are common.

Officer Logan said “The night when this happened it would've been raining, in all likelihood this (the shoulder of the road) would’ve been completely muddy."

Police are told the victim’s status appears to be improving but he suffered head trauma and broken bones.

On the opposite end of Broadway, police are also investigating a nearly identical accident, several  weeks earlier 23-year-old Joshua Shaffner was hit on South Broadway by what police say was a late 90s jeep Cherokee.

Anyone with information on either case is asked to call Santa Maria police.
