Attorney for former scout seeking punitive damages

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The Boys Scouts of America trial  is scheduled to start at the Santa Barbara Courthouse Oct. 3.

Attorney Tim Hale is representing a young man who said he was molested by his troop leader Al Stein at a Goleta Christmas tree lot in 2007.

Hale tried to include the local troop and council in the lawsuit but this month a judge dismissed that part of the suit.

Hale said he intends to show how the Boy Scouts of America  failed to teach parents and scouts how to report abuse.  BSA attorneys did not return calls to comment.

Ex-troop leader and volunteer Al Stein is already out of prison after pleading no contest. Stein is a registered sex offender living in California.
