SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

A staff sergeant from Vandenberg Air Force Base is back home after being deployed in Kuwait for the past five months. The happy homecoming was the first time the new dad met his baby daughter.

Sergeant Kristopher Hickey was greeted Tuesday evening at the Santa Maria Airport by his family and friends and his new baby daughter, Evelynn. Evelynn was born on December 18. Before Tuesday evening, he has only seen his daughter via Skype from Kuwait.

"It was exciting to be able to see my daughter for the first time, in real life. I was able to see her birth over the internet, but it's, I can't even put it into words," says Sergeant Kristopher Hickey.

This is Sergeant Hickey's third deployment.
