Students Enter Super Bowl Commercial Competition

The students in the Dons Net Cafe class at Santa Barbara High School are in the running to win a commercial during the Super Bowl. If they take the top spot, they could get national exposure.
The contest is called Small Business Big Game and is put on by Intuit, the creators of QuickBooks.
Jesus Terraza went out on a limb when he applied for a chance to win a television spot during the big football game.
Terraza is the 17-year-old high school senior chief executive officer for Dons Net Cafe.
"We're a student-run business at Santa Barbara High School. We focus on three main things, community service, food and beverages and customized products," he said.
The group sells snacks during passing periods at school and also sells customized clothing. But now, their small business that's run out of a classroom could get some big-time exposure.
"For us to be on a Super Bowl commercial, I just thought it was ridiculous. I didn't even think we would have a chance. But seeing how many people are into it and seeing how many votes we're getting, it's definitely a possibility," said Linda Arellano, the vice president of sales at Dons Net Cafe.
Burke Franklin is a 1974 graduate of Santa Barbara High School. He's glad to see more businessmen and women coming from the halls of his former high school.
"It's great. I'm excited for them. It's fun. They can do this," said Franklin.
"Getting that recognition locally and globally would just be amazing," said Arellano.
The students will find out this week if they made it to the second round of the competition. If they do, they'll need the community's vote.
