The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse planned Tuesday night's town hall meeting to address underage drinking prior to the Deltopia riot this month, but the unsanctioned street party made the subject even more timely.
The streets of Isla Vista were filled with minors who managed to get alcohol during Deltopia weekend.
Town Hall speakers at the Davis Recreation Center in Santa Barbara said it's important to trace the origin of the alcohol accessed by underage drinkers.
Lynn Goodwin said that's the question she kept asking when an 18-year-old drinking-driver killed her 20 year old daughter in a head on crash.
Goodwin said her daughter Casey was a Cal Poly students who had offered her friends safe rides home the night before her death.
Members of the Friday Night Live Youth Coalition took part in the town hall. They said they knew of teens who went to Deltopia to drink in the college town of Isla Vista.
Participants said parents and teens need to talk about the consequences of serving alcohol to minors and of illegal drinking.
One emergency room doctor said he has treated teens as young as 13 who have overdosed on alcohol.
Panelists urged participants in the forum to take personal action.
