Teenager hit by train identified

GOLETA, Calif. -

The teenager hit and killed by a train in Goleta has been identified.

The victim is a 15 year-old student from Goleta. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department did not release his name because he is a juvenile, but a family friend told NewsChannel 3 he is Edwin Garcia.

It happened near Highway 101 at Kellogg around 7 p.m on Friday.

According to witnesses, a group of teens was seen near the train after the fatal collision.

Officials said they aren't releasing any more information until the investigation is complete.

Garcia's family is having a car wash fundraiser on Sunday, June 23 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mobil gas station at 49 Glen Annie Rd. in Goleta. The money raised will help with funeral expenses.
