GOLETA, Calif. -

Two employees of the Beachside Cafe at the base of the Goleta Pier were hurt when strong storm surges sent water crashing into the building Saturday morning.

The restaurant's manager was swept out into the ocean underneath Goleta Pier where he was able to get out of the water.  He was taken to the hospital for treatment.  Another employee was pushed back inside the restaurant by a rogue wave but was not seriously hurt.

Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials said one boat in the area was demolished after being slammed into the Goleta Pier due to the waves.  Home video showed one boat also washing up on shore.

At the restaurant, employees were attempting to secure outside deck furniture when they were overwhelmed by the water.  The restaurant owner said he would try to re-open for business on Monday.

Nearby, people who flocked to Goleta Beach Park to watch the stormy seas were evacuated after water there also caused damage.

Home video of the Gaviota Pier shows significant damage was done by the strong waves.

In Santa Barbara, a window was broken by waves at the Moby Dick's restaurant on the pier at Stearn's Wharf.  Strong waves also broke through a sand berm allowing seawater into the Santa Barbara Yacht Club, with minor damage reported.

Road closures reported at of 1:00 p.m. include:

- Painted Cave Road closed due to rocks and debris.

- Gibraltar Road due to rocks and debris.

- Canyon Crossing in Cuyama Valley was closed due to high water and repairs.

An accident slowed traffic for a short time just before 1:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Patterson Road exit in Goleta.    Local law enforcement has urged drivers to slow down and be cautious because of slick pavement and reduced visibility.
